Search and document delivery at a glance

Search online
Public company search opens directly at the search form. [1] [5]
Search language
The actual search interface offers Bokmål, Nynorsk and English. Fields such as the business purpose and signing rules retain their original Norwegian wording in the English interface. [7]
Digital documents
Company information is available as signed PDFs; accounts as PDFs with text stored as graphics. Result lists separately export to JSON or Excel. [1] [2] [4] [5]
Document language
English registry confirmations are available. They normally omit the statutory objects. A translation of the objects can be requested by telephone for the notarised certificate; it is included in the NOK 424 fee but takes longer. This does not promise a translation of filed annual accounts. [6]
Paper and collection
Notarised registration certificates are sent by post, normally dispatched within one working day according to the operator. This is dispatch time, not arrival time. Other printed custom products can be ordered by telephone. [6]
International delivery

Fees at a glance
Public information, standard digital extracts and available online accounts: free. Notarised products: NOK 424.
Access
Public organisation search without sign-in; beneficial ownership has separate access controls.

Choose the right register

Brønnøysundregistrene operates several official registers. Enhetsregisteret is the central directory of registered organisations. Foretaksregisteret is the Register of Business Enterprises. The organisation’s registration determines which kind of official extract is appropriate. [1] [5]

Registration documents and accounts answer different questions

Registration certificates establish registration and responsible persons. Annual accounts provide financial information, potentially including a balance sheet, profit and loss account, notes, annual report, auditor’s report and group accounts. [1]

Access from abroad

The public organisation service opens directly on a search form. Free standard English extracts are available in the organisation service. Order a notarised English certificate through the webshop. Other specialised English products are ordered by telephone on +47 75 00 75 00. [1] [5]

Beneficial ownership is separately restricted

Beneficial ownership data is not an unrestricted extension of the public organisation page. The operator describes access through an API only. Eligible groups include specified public authorities, anti-money-laundering obliged entities and qualifying media, NGOs or higher education institutions. Access must fit the relevant category. [3]

Eligible users search by organisation number. Searches by personal identity number and access to the complete register are reserved for public authorities. [3]

Exports and interfaces

The public search offers JSON and Excel downloads of search results. Separate datasets and APIs support larger data uses. Open datasets use the Norwegian Licence for Open Government Data. Separate beneficial-ownership restrictions still apply. [4] [5]

Short certificate or all registered information?

Open “Download information” in the organisation record. “Certificate of registration” supplies the certificate; “Download all information (PDF)” covers all registered information and is described in the menu as digitally signed. “Selected information (PDF)” exports the selected sections. The certificate in its previous format remains available through the webshop. [7]

Paper and custom orders

For custom orders, call +47 75 00 75 00. Printed products can be notarised if requested in advance. The notarised English registration certificate can also be ordered in the webshop. Other custom orders normally take seven days, with current delays up to 14 days. Confirm an overseas delivery address and postage before ordering; the product page does not provide a binding destination list. [6]

Avoid common mistakes

  • Standard English extracts normally omit the objective set out in the articles. Request its translation explicitly when needed; the operator lists this within the NOK 424 product. [1]
  • The search does not disclose an exact employee count for organisations with one to four employees, for privacy reasons. [5]

Frequently asked questions

Is every subentity a separate company?

No. An Underenhet is not independent and belongs to a main entity. Identify the correct legal entity when checking a contractual counterparty. [5]

How do I obtain older accounts?

The last 14 years are available in the webshop. Older accounts can be ordered by telephone for NOK 241. [1]

Can anyone inspect beneficial owners?

General organisation information is public. The separate beneficial ownership register has eligibility-based API access. A public company page does not give unrestricted access to that register. [3]
