Choose the right register

Obchodný register is the commercial register. Eight register courts maintain the entries, while the Ministry of Justice operates the shared electronic system. Jurisdiction normally follows the company’s registered office. Results identify the court and register file, helping you contact the correct court. [1] [6]

Act 29/2026 has governed the register since 17 August 2026. Section 6 provides that register data and documents published on the specialised portal are accessible free of charge and usable for legal purposes. The official extract service provides an additional sealed record of the position at the date of issue. [1] [5]

Entities and information covered

The commercial register covers partnerships, companies and cooperatives. It also includes European legal forms, state enterprises and certain legal entities established by statute. Branches of Slovak and foreign legal entities are included. [1]

An s. r. o. entry contains its name and registered office, IČO and business activities. It identifies directors and how they may represent the company. It also records members, their contributions and paid-up capital. For an a. s., capital and share particulars are prescribed. Section 12 specifies the sole shareholder. [1]

For a sole trader, the Ministry of the Interior’s Živnostenský register is the additional source. Its form provides IČO and business-name searches, plus a separate natural-person search. It also contains an anti-automation check. [14] [1]

Documents and delivery times

The document collection contains formation documents and amendments. It also includes documents appointing or removing company officers. A current extract summarises valid register entries; to read the actual articles, obtain the relevant filed document. [1]

Section 108 provides for electronic current and full extracts without delay. An electronic document copy or certificate that a particular document is absent must be provided within five working days. An electronic certificate that a particular register entry is absent must be issued within two working days. These periods run from receipt of the request. [1]

Financial statements in the separate RÚZ

The Ministry of Finance provides accounting documents through RÚZ, operated by DataCentrum. Search the same IČO, or use the name or DIČ. The register started operating on 1 January 2014 and publishes documents within its mandatory scope drawn up as at 31 December 2013 or later. [8] [9]

Depending on the reporting obligation, documents include individual or consolidated financial statements and accompanying reports. Public documents can be viewed and saved as PDFs. Check the reporting period and document type. A corrected filing may appear above the earlier version; the previous record does not automatically disappear. [10]

“Dáta nie sú verejne dostupné” means that the document has been filed but its contents are held in the non-public part of the register. This differs from a missing filing. The entity itself can request non-public copies; an ordinary account does not open this collection to any third party. [10]

Legal owners and beneficial owners

Members shown in the commercial register are direct legal owners. The Ministry of Justice says beneficial ownership information appears neither on the commercial register website nor in ordinary extracts. Section 107 excludes it from standard register documents. A member entry therefore does not automatically identify the person exercising ultimate control. [1] [3]

Check RPVS as an additional source. It identifies registered public sector partners and their verified beneficial owners. Its scope includes certain recipients of public funds and public contractors; voluntary registration is possible. It is not a directory of every Slovak company. [12] [13]

For further beneficial ownership enquiries, the Ministry’s FAQ identifies personal inspection at the competent register court or an official certificate of facts known from court files. Inspection costs €5. The certificate costs €3 per commenced page under tariff item 24a. This court procedure is separate from the free standard electronic extract. [3] [2]

Public data for your own analysis

RÚZ provides a public application programming interface (API) for your own analysis. It supplies machine-readable JSON data under the CC0 public-domain dedication. It covers the public portal data and excludes non-public financial statement contents. Change queries support regular updates. The documentation distinguishes changes to the entity from changes to individual statements. [11]

Official samples and reading guides

Official illustrated search guide

34 pages: search examples and advanced criteria on pages 4 to 14, current view on page 21, full view on page 24 and document list on page 28. December 2024 edition; current legal rules and fees are covered in this country profile. The official guide shows the current and full register views in Slovak. “Aktuálny výpis” is the current view and “Úplný výpis” is the full view. Use “Vytlačiť” to print the displayed data. This printout is not a legally binding register extract. [4] [16]

Avoid common mistakes

  • Check the database update date displayed on the portal. A court change may not appear in the search view on the same day. [6]
  • A name may match several businesses. Use the IČO and register court to distinguish entries; historical records may explain additional results. [4]
  • The €10 amount is the statutory paper fee. Translation or special authentication for a foreign recipient is not part of the electronically sealed extract described here. [2] [5]

Frequently asked questions

Can I research from Germany without a Slovak identity card?

Public company search is available without sign-in. Official orders offer a German eID login route. You need a supported electronic identification method to use it. [6] [7]

Is an official electronic extract really free?

Yes. Tariff item 24b expressly exempts electronic current and full extracts from the fee. The extract service confirms free delivery with a qualified electronic seal. [2] [5]

Are all shareholders publicly visible?

For an a. s., section 12 provides for the sole shareholder where one exists. For an s. r. o., members and their contributions are part of the register entry. [1]

Why does the financial statements register show a notice instead of a document?

The non-public-data notice means the document is filed but its contents are outside the public collection. [10]
