Choose the right register
BCRD means Business and Companies Regulatory Division within the trade ministry. It handles company registration and registry services. Its parent Business Regulatory Centre covers additional register types. A corporate document and a business-name registration are therefore not automatically the same evidence. [1] [2]

Search step by step
Prepare an official information request
Identify the company and evidence needed
Record the full company name and any registration number. State whether you need the corporate file or a business-name registration. BCRD covers both areas. [1]
Contact the official registry unit
The Business Regulatory Centre lists brc@commerce.gov.ki. BCRD also lists ttamoa@commerce.gov.ki. The ministry phone number is +686 75126156. Ask for the current search and copy procedure for an overseas applicant. [2] [1]
Distinguish inspection from particular copies
The BCRD tariff treats register inspection and copies as separate services. Specify documents or first ask which documents the file contains. Establish whether plain or certified copies meet your purpose. [1] [5]
Agree price and delivery before payment
Under the older Section 6 of CAP10A reference, the ministry lists 50 c for inspection and 50 c per copied page. Confirm the currently applicable fee, currency and payment method. Ask specifically about scans/PDFs, language and delivery to your overseas address. [1]
Confirm any new online service with the authority
The PSDI report for the 2025 financial year describes a prototype undergoing user testing and a planned launch in the 2026 financial year. Ask the registry for the current company-search entry point. Use the listed authority contact for information requests in the meantime. [4] [3]
Documents and fees
| Document / information | Contents and purpose | Fee | How to get it |
|---|---|---|---|
| Register inspection [1] [2] | Inspection of the file maintained by the registrar; request its specific scope. | BCRD page under older CAP10A reference: 50 c. Confirm current tariff and currency. | Provide the company name and any number; agree an appointment or remote handling. |
| Copy of a registered document [1] [5] | Copy of a particular filed document or part. | Published BCRD tariff: 50 c per page under older CAP10A reference. Confirm today’s charge. | Specify document and scope; establish whether plain or certified copies are needed. |
Fees for inspection and copies
The registry division lists 50 c for register inspection and 50 c per page for copies of documents or parts under Section 6 of CAP10A. The same page carries older legislative references and 2019 consultation drafts. Use this as a specific basis for a quotation rather than a verified current online price. [1]
Check the legislation and live register separately
Section 208 of the Companies Act 2021 allows a register maintained digitally. Sections 213 and 214 describe inspection and the supply or certification of registered documents. Section 2 makes commencement dependent on a ministerial notice. In its report for the fiscal year ended 30 June 2025, PSDI said the laws had not yet commenced. These sources do not establish present commencement or a usable public search service. [5] [4]
Overseas access and office inspection
The published Companies Act 2021 uses any person for inspection and copies. Office inspection is during public business hours. Commencement requires a separate notice. Confirm citizenship conditions, representation and overseas payment for the specific request with BCRD. [5] [2]
PDF, paper and language
The English ministry pages describe registry services and copies without establishing a digital output format, document language or international postal service for this request. Company Registration displays an under-development notice. Agree format and delivery before ordering. [1] [3]
