Choose the right register
Bolagsverket is the Swedish Companies Registration Office. Its service “Sök företagsinformation” means “Find company information”. Start with the official business name or registration number, known in Swedish as the organisationsnummer. [1] [2]
Separate three questions: does the registered company exist, who can act for it, and who owns or controls it? The free record helps answer the first. A registration certificate identifies officials and signatory powers. The share register and the beneficial ownership register provide different ownership information. [2] [3] [14] [8]
Free company search and purchase of official register documents.
Separate beneficial ownership search with eID and a stated purpose.
Request specific public records by company registration and case number.

Search step by step
Identify the correct Swedish company
Open the official search
Open “Sök företagsinformation” and select “English” if required. In “Företag / Company”, use “Företagsnamn eller organisationsnummer / Business name or registration number”. [2] [3]
Enter a name or registration number
Use the registration number if you have it. A business-name query returns a list that can be sorted by name or registration number. The Swedish filter “Visa inte avslutade företag” excludes closed businesses. Leave it off for historical research. [2]
Match the record to the business
Compare registration number, registered office and legal form. Similar names may refer to different companies. Free details include registered address, registered office and registration date. Ongoing registration matters may also be shown. [2] [1]
Use a certificate to check authority to sign
Open “Which document do you want to buy?” and choose “Certificate of registration”. Select Swedish or English. The certificate is produced with the current date and contains registered officials and signatory powers. [3]
Obtain annual accounts or articles of association
Open the correct company
Use its registration number to identify the company, then open the document menu. Choose “Annual report” for accounts or “Articles of association” for its governing rules. [4] [5]
Choose the financial year
The annual-report form initially selects the latest registered report. Use “Select year” to choose available years. The date shown is the financial year end. Tick the PDF you want. [4]
Check the price and document language
A single annual-report PDF and the Swedish articles were each offered at SEK 75. Choosing an English interface does not translate these documents. The English registration certificate is a separate product costing SEK 250. [4] [5] [3]
Pay as a guest and save the file
The authority supports guest payments by card or Swish. A download link is sent by email. Purchased documents remain available for five days, so save them promptly. Signed-in users can also find purchases under “Mina köp”. [1]
Research shareholders and beneficial owners
Distinguish share ownership from ultimate control
For the immediate shareholders, obtain the company’s share register. Bolagsverket does not maintain a list of shareholders or their holdings. Where shares are centrally registered, Euroclear Sweden AB maintains the share register. [14]
Establish the purpose of the UBO search
The separate service “Sök verklig huvudman” requires eID login and a statement of intended use. Permitted purposes include official duties, anti-money-laundering customer checks and legitimate interest. The terms give media and people likely to transact with the business as examples. [6] [7]
Search the appropriate register
The beneficial ownership search supports company registration number, personal identity number and company or association name. A business appears there only after it has submitted a notification. [6]

What the free search provides
Search covers companies and associations with different legal forms. These include Aktiebolag, Handelsbolag, Kommanditbolag and economic associations (“ekonomisk förening”). Each result gives the legal form and registry status. [2]
The authority lists basic details, address and registered office, registration date, certain status information, ongoing matters and received annual reports among the free information. More detailed structured information about officials, activities, capital and business mortgages requires login and may involve a fee. [1]
Research from abroad and account requirements
Basic searches do not require an account. Selected documents can also be bought as a guest. This route is useful if you do not have a supported Swedish eID. Bolagsverket lists cards and Swish for guest payments. The signed-in invoice route requires additional details. [1] [2]
Bolagsverket gives mobile BankID and Freja+ as examples of eID login methods. Historical certificates and certain special English certificates require login. An ordinary English registration certificate is included in the guest offer. [1] [3]
A separate form handles public-record requests. Specify the company registration number, the case number if known, and the document type. Required billing fields include name, personal or company identifier, billing address and email; the form also has a country field. Contact Bolagsverket if the form does not accommodate your foreign identification details. [9]
Public records can also be requested anonymously. The authority identifies its Sundsvall office as the place for anonymous cash payment. People unable to attend should contact the authority. [10]
How to interpret annual reports
An Aktiebolag must submit annual accounts to Bolagsverket every year, including when dormant. The filing is due within one month of adoption by the general meeting. To avoid a late filing fee, it must arrive no later than seven months after the financial year end. [13] [11]
An annual report concerns a particular financial year. An absent report for a recently ended year is therefore not automatically a filing breach. Compare the financial year end and applicable deadline before drawing a conclusion. [11] [4]
Bolagsverket checks matters such as required components, signatures and the approval certificate. Storage in the official register is not a separate credit assessment. Already registered accounts can be replaced by a new version at the company’s request. [11]
The “Fastställelseintyg” confirms adoption of the balance sheet and income statement. General-meeting minutes cannot replace it. The official templates linked below help readers recognise this page in filed accounts. [12]
Ownership information and the 2026 changes
The share register lists shareholders. The beneficial ownership certificate concerns ultimate ownership or control and can also record that there is no beneficial owner. These sources answer different questions. [14] [8]
Legislative changes to electronic access to beneficial ownership information took effect from 1 July 2026. The current authority notice says users of the separate search still state their access grounds inside the service. A different access process is announced for late 2026, with applications to be assessed by Bolagsverket. This future process should not be mistaken for the present login procedure. [6]
The separate UBO search provides personal information only for the purposes listed in its terms. This does not authorise unrestricted reuse or large-scale redistribution. [7]
The company portal additionally offers a dated PDF extract from the beneficial ownership register in Swedish or English. This product offer is distinct from the search access procedure. [8] [7]
Official samples and reading guides
Official annual-accounts approval certificate templates
Swedish templates published by Bolagsverket. Open “Mallar för fastställelseintyg”. They illustrate an approval page found in annual accounts and contain no real company’s details. [12]
Avoid common mistakes
- “English” changes the interface. Annual reports and articles remain Swedish documents according to their product descriptions. [4] [5]
- The SEK 250 English registration certificate is different from special English certificates or historical evidence. Some of those other products require login. [3] [1]
- Bolagsverket’s company register does not list all shareholders. Request the share register from the company or the relevant central securities depository. [14]
- Save paid documents within the five-day availability period. The authority says purchased structured information remains accessible for only 24 hours. [1]
Frequently asked questions
Can I check a Swedish company without BankID?
Yes. Basic searches work without login. Selected documents, including ordinary registration certificates and annual reports, can be purchased as a guest. The separate beneficial ownership search and additional functions require eID. [1] [2] [6]
How much does a Swedish company certificate cost?
The ordinary PDF certificate costs SEK 125 in Swedish or SEK 250 in English in the official guest offer. An annual-report PDF costs SEK 75. [3] [4]
Can I obtain the complete ownership list from Bolagsverket?
No. Bolagsverket does not maintain a register of shareholders and shareholdings. The share register is held by the company or a central securities depository. The beneficial ownership register adds information about ultimate control. [14] [8]
Is there an official sample document?
Bolagsverket publishes templates for the certificate confirming approval of annual accounts. They illustrate the structure of that certificate. They are not real company extracts or complete sample financial statements. [12]
