Choose the right register

The Companies Section registers companies, partnerships, business names, overseas companies and European companies in the Republic of Cyprus. It also records changes, annual returns, financial statements and registered securities. A “Business Name” search concerns a trading name and its owner, which is not necessarily a separate incorporated company. [3] [1]

Access without a Cypriot identity

You can open the company view as a guest. For “Study File”, sign in through CY Login. Available methods include a username and password, Cyprus eID and eIDAS. [16]

The public search does not require a CY Login profile. For online orders, the government guidance distinguishes profile creation from identity authentication. General authentication routes include eBanking, a video call for Cyprus identity-card holders, and in-person identification with a Cyprus ID or specified residence documents. [2] [5] [6]

The registry expressly provides email and postal request routes for users abroad. Its email instructions list payment by remittance or through the Cyprus embassy in the applicant’s country. Use the linked official page for current recipients and payment instructions. [10] [9]

Accounts and the age of information

The registry holds annual returns and financial statements. Financial statements include a profit-and-loss account, balance sheet and notes, with further reports depending on the circumstances. Filing exemptions apply in the incorporation year and specified following-year cases. Check the financial year and filing date when examining the file. [13] [3] [1]

The 2015 digitisation covered organisations active at that time. For a company dissolved much earlier, ask the register specifically about the availability of its historical file. Company particulars and certificates reflect the information notified to the register. [1] [7]

Shareholders and beneficial owners

A shareholder certificate belongs to the company register. BO search is a different service. The current official FAQ says general public access to the BO register is suspended. Competent authorities and approved entities with anti-money-laundering obligations have specific access routes. Obliged entities pay €3.50 per legal entity after approval of their electronic request. [14] [7]

The FAQ describes the current BO record and excludes information before 12 March 2021. Buying the €10 company file does not unlock these BO details. [14] [1]

Memorandum and articles in Greek or English

A company incorporated in Cyprus files its memorandum and articles of association in Greek. Certified English copies are available if the company has filed a certified English translation with the Registrar in a translation file. [18] [19]

A sworn translator of the Republic of Cyprus can certify the translation. Alternatively, the translator makes an affidavit before the competent court confirming its accuracy. The certified translation and its attachments are filed by hand or through e-filing. [18]

Avoid common mistakes

  • The “Preview File Documents” notice limits the preview to the 20 most recent document entries. This metadata list establishes neither the complete file nor free access to scanned documents. [16]
  • Acceleration is charged per document. Five certificates therefore attract five basic fees and, if requested, five acceleration charges. [8]
  • The 90-day period concerns online authenticity verification. [12]
  • A registered shareholder may itself be a company. [7] [14]

Frequently asked questions

Do I need permission from the company I am researching?

Not for the public basic search. The official guidance separates the user account used for certificate orders from entity authorisation codes used to file the entity’s documents. [2] [4]

Can I order English documents?

The official request form contains separate columns for Greek and English copies. Select the language when applying. [15]
