Choose the right register
Article 11 of Cameroon’s law governing commercial activity requires businesses to show their RCCM number and place of registration on commercial documents. Use these details to identify the competent registry. The Ministry of Finance describes tax registration as a separate procedure. [1] [3]
Names and abbreviations explained
- RCCMRegistre du Commerce et du Crédit Mobilier
- Commercial and movable-credit register. It holds registrations and subsequent registry transactions. [1] [2]
- Greffe / TPIGreffe du Tribunal de première instance
- Court registry and court of first instance. The Ministry of Finance identifies the competent TPI registry as the office for RCCM registration. [3]
- Fichier NationalNational RCCM file
- Centralisation of local register information at the Ministry of Justice. The law expressly includes access to information for third parties. [1]
Search step by step
Identify the responsible office and required record
Obtain the RCCM number and registration location
Copy the complete identifier and place of registration from an existing register document or the company’s business paperwork. Record its name and registered office as well. Article 11 expressly requires the number and location; a name alone is less precise for a local file enquiry. [1]
Identify the court registry
Direct the enquiry to the competent court’s greffe at the registration location. The Ministry of Finance identifies the competent TPI for registration and filing. If the location is unclear, first ask which office holds the record, rather than applying to create a new business. [3] [1]
Specify current information and filed documents separately
Request current RCCM information including amendments and deregistration entries. If you need the articles of association or a filed document concerning authorised representatives, specify that separately. OHADA law distinguishes register information from the contents of the individual file. [2]
Agree charges and delivery before ordering
Ask the same office for research and copy charges. Confirm certification requirements and issued language. Establish separately whether a scan is available or an original must be collected. Representation and overseas postage require a specific arrangement with that office. [2] [3]
Documents and fees
| Document / information | Contents and purpose | Fee | How to get it |
|---|---|---|---|
| RCCM register information [1] [2] [3] | Information about registration and subsequent register transactions within the requested scope. | Ask the registry for the current research charge. | Contact the competent registry with the company name, RCCM identifier and registration location. |
| Requested document from the company file [2] [3] | For example, filed articles of association or a document concerning representation; confirm availability and access to the specific copy. | Ask the office for copying and any certification charges. | Specify the required document and period in the file enquiry. |
Information in the company file
Article 46 of OHADA commercial law lists the company name, legal form and activities. Capital and business addresses are also included. Information about authorised representatives and certain personally liable partners is required. Article 47 lists the articles of association and other formation evidence as supporting documents. This does not promise that every available extract contains the entire file or all owners. [2]
Third-party access is provided for
The national law provides for access by registered entities and third parties to the national file. Article 34 of OHADA commercial law also provides for third-party access. Research is therefore not inherently restricted to the searched company’s directors. Confirm the identity documents or authority required for your particular request with the registry. [1] [2]
Request registry information from the responsible office
On 3 April 2024, OHADA reported the digitisation of 30 registry and business-formation offices and the national data repository. Contact the responsible registry office for company information. The website e-rccm.ohada.org provides software administration and documentation; it is not a public company search. [4] [6]
Formation fees and deadlines are not research charges
The Ministry of Finance (MINFI) page concerns starting a company and identifies the responsible offices. Its timescales and fees in older replies relate to that procedure. Do not use them as the price or delivery time for a present-day enquiry about an existing company. [3]
Help identifying a CFCE office
The ministry responsible for small and medium-sized enterprises lists +237 222 22 45 28 and B. P. 6096, Yaoundé, on its CFCE page. This contact can help with orientation to formation offices. The substantive research request needs to reach the competent court registry. [5] [3]
Avoid common mistakes
- The principal establishment and a branch may have separate local registrations. Article 11 also covers registrable branches in another court’s district. Check which entity the supplied number identifies. [1]
- An incorporation document evidences the original registration transaction. Request subsequent amendments when checking current representation. [2]
