Choose the right register
CAIPO means Corporate Affairs and Intellectual Property Office. It handles corporate affairs and intellectual property. For company records, specify the corporate-registry service. The Companies Act distinguishes the company register from individual filed documents. [1] [2]
Names and abbreviations explained
Search step by step
Request a particular company record
Identify the company
Have the full registered name and any known registration number ready. Identify the required filing and its date or period. Section 495 concerns documents required to be sent to the Registrar under company legislation. [2]
Contact CAIPO
WIPO lists registrar@caipo.gov.gd and +1 473 440 2030, press 4. The published address is Mt. Wheldale Gap, Upper Lucas Street, St. George’s, Grenada. Ask for inspection, a plain copy or a certified copy. [1] [2]
Settle delivery terms before payment
Confirm search, page-copy and certification charges separately. State whether an electronic copy is sufficient or a paper original is required. For overseas requests, ask explicitly about payment, representation, destination country and postage. [2] [1]
Documents and fees
| Document / information | Contents and purpose | Fee | How to get it |
|---|---|---|---|
| Plain copy or extract of a filing [2] [1] | Contents of the specified filing; identify the document and relevant period. | Prescribed fee under section 495; confirm the current amount with CAIPO. | Request from CAIPO; distinguish plain and certified copies. |
| Certified copy under section 495 [2] [1] | Registrar-certified reproduction of the specified filed document. | Prescribed fee under section 495; confirm the current amount with CAIPO. | Explicitly request a certified copy of the identified filing from CAIPO. |
What may be inspected
Section 495 entitles a person who has paid the prescribed fee to examine the relevant documents during normal business hours and make copies or extracts. The Registrar is to furnish copies or certified copies on request and payment. An express exception concerns investigation reports under section 519(2). Access therefore does not extend indiscriminately to every official file. [2]
Why direct contact is needed
Contact CAIPO to inspect records or obtain copies. Use the published contact details and specify the company and document type. [3] [1] [2]
Avoid common mistakes
- Confirmation of registration and a copy of a particular filing answer different questions. Specify the document instead of asking only for a generic company report. [2]
Frequently asked questions
Is access restricted to citizens?
Section 495 describes access by a person on payment without specifying a citizenship condition there. Whether CAIPO can complete a particular request entirely from abroad must be confirmed separately. [2]
