Choose the right register
The Department of State maintains the public corporate registry. It includes corporations and limited liability companies (LLCs), among other registered entity types, including foreign entities registered there. The search service uses corporation as a collective term. Puerto Rico has its own register access for this research. [1] [2]

Search step by step
From free search to the appropriate certificate
Choose the language and search field
Open the official search and select Spanish or English. Use Corporation Name or Registry Number. Name matching supports all words, individual words, starts with and exact matching. [2]
Include inactive entries where needed
Search Active Entities Only restricts the results. Search All Entities includes other statuses. Results are limited to 250. Refine large result sets with a more specific name or registration number. [2]
Match several identifying details
Open the entity name in the results. Compare registration number, entity form, status and formation jurisdiction. The details include the principal office and resident agent, although some fields can be missing. [2]
Choose Good Standing or Existence
Use Certificates or the order function on the entity page. Good Standing concerns registry compliance. Existence requires an active entity and known formation details but not good standing. LLPs cannot obtain an Existence certificate online. [3] [2]
Check the price and enter applicant details
Confirm the entity and displayed price. The online LLC Good Standing order costs USD 25. The following form requires name, address, country, telephone and a confirmed email address. Germany is available in the country selector. [2] [3]
Pay, save the documents and validate
The help pages list Visa, Mastercard and American Express. After payment, certificates in English and Spanish and the payment receipt are provided on screen and by email. Use “Validate Certificates” to check the certificate number. [3]

Information in the free company view

Specific fees and a conflicting form
Portal help lists Good Standing at USD 15 for for-profit corporations, USD 25 for LLCs and no charge for nonprofit corporations. The forms page and its paper application instead list USD 20 for LLCs. Why Good Standing may require an office visit
Help requires filed annual reports to be visible on the corporation’s page. Where reports are missing, it describes applying in person with supporting evidence.
