Choose the right register
The Division of Corporations and Trademarks within the Office of the Lieutenant Governor maintains the US Virgin Islands company register. Its online system is called Catalyst. Start with “Corporation Search”. Results cover business entities and trade names; distinguish a company registration from a registered business name. [1] [2]
Names and abbreviations explained
- CatalystOfficial online registry system
- The system for public company searches and registry filings. Public research does not require authority to change a company’s record. [1] [2]
- Trade NameRegistered business name
- A name under which a business operates. A trade-name record is distinct from a company registration. [4] [2]
- Resident AgentLocal agent for service of process
- A person or company in the USVI on whom legal process against the company can be served. This does not necessarily identify an owner. [4]
- Certificate of Good StandingCertificate of compliant registry status
- The official glossary describes confirmation of annual reports, taxes and fees payable to the registry authority and active status. It is not a comprehensive credit assessment. [4] [5]
- Certificate of FactCertificate of existence
- The authority expressly distinguishes evidence of the entity’s existence from evidence of its status. [4]
Search step by step
From a company search to the required record
Open public search
Select “Corporation Search” and enter the company name in “Item Name or Number”. “Starts With” matches the beginning; “Contains” matches a name fragment. The register filter separates business names from business entities. [1] [2]
Try the name if a number returns nothing
Where possible, search by both registration number and company name. Compare the results using the identifier. If one search returns no result, try the other method. [2]
Match the record and review its data date
Open the matching result. The profile includes legal form, status, registration date, addresses and registered agent details. Check the date of the latest annual return too. The search data date appears under “System Through Date”. [2]
Select the information product
The profile’s “Request Entity Information” menu includes “Request Copies of Business Documents” and “Request Business Certificates”. Other entries request a business entity report or information about people listed as “Principals”, such as management or ownership roles. Choose the product that answers your question. [2] [4]
Request a copy with an account
In the copy request form, select the filing by date and document identifier. You can choose certification and “Email PDF” delivery. An online account is required. Check the fee displayed before paying. [2] [3]

Public filings and confidential financial statements
The authority’s FAQ lists registration applications and corporate documents as available to the public for a charge. These include amendments, mergers and changes of resident agent or principal office. Annual reports are also listed. Financial statements are expressly excluded as confidential. An annual report is therefore not equivalent to a publicly available set of financial statements. [1]
Read the published fee version
The current service page links a fee schedule labelled 22 April 2019. It lists an online copy at a flat USD 5 and a certified copy at USD 25. Paper copies for office collection cost USD 5 for the first page and USD 1 per additional page. A written search result for collection costs USD 30. For an LLC, Good Standing and Certificate of Fact are USD 25 each. Confirm the amount shown for the actual request before payment. [1] [3]
Access and payment from abroad
Public research worked without an account or proof of local identity. The copy function required an account and offered an email address for PDF delivery. The FAQ lists Mastercard, Visa and ATH for online payments. Authority to amend a company record is a separate function from researching another entity. [2] [1]
Paper copies and contact
The published tariff provides for office collection of paper copies and written search results. International postage is not specified. The division lists +1 340 774 2991 for St. Thomas and St. John, and +1 340 773 6449 for St. Croix. Confirm the current collection address and any representative’s authority before arranging collection. [3] [1]
Official samples and reading guides
Good Standing certificate: expired official example
English original PDF on the USVI planning and natural-resources authority’s website. Issued 29 August 2025, valid through 30 June 2026. It illustrates layout, entity identifier and expiry. It is not current evidence of company status and must not be used as such. [5]
Avoid common mistakes
- Check the data date shown by the search system. It can differ from the date when you access the page. [2]
- A Certificate of Fact establishes existence. Use the designated status certificate, including Good Standing where the registry position permits it, when status evidence is required. [4]
- A historical non-compliance notice in the filing list describes an earlier event. Compare subsequent filings and registry status. [2]
Frequently asked questions
Can I research without signing in?
Yes. Name search and company profiles are available without an account. Document-copy requests require an online account. [2]
Are documents available digitally?
Yes. Select “Email PDF” in the copy request form for delivery by email. An account is required to order. [2]
Are financial statements public?
The authority’s FAQ distinguishes public annual reports from confidential financial statements. An annual report does not therefore mean publicly obtainable financial statements. [1]
